St.Vincent Named Sports Medicine Provider for Butler University Athletics
INDIANAPOLIS – St.Vincent Indianapolis Hospital has been named the sports medicine provider for Butler University Athletics. The new agreement allows St.Vincent Sports Medicine physicians and Butler University athletic trainers to collaborate to provide optimal treatment for athletic injuries and illnesses.
Butler has 21 sports and over 550 athletes in its athletic department. Several of the university’s sports teams are participating members of the Horizon League, which features nine public and private institutions with stellar academic and athletic reputations. St.Vincent Sports Medicine is the largest, most comprehensive hospital-based sports medicine program in Indiana.
“We are pleased to be the sports medicine physician provider and renew our relationship with Butler athletics,” said David M. Harsha, MD, medical director of St.Vincent Sports Medicine. “It is truly an honor for our program to be selected by Butler leadership as their choice for treating athletes’ sports injuries in an array of competitive fields. The athletes will benefit from our physicians’ health care expertise and the support they will provide to the Butler athletic training department.”
St.Vincent sports medicine physicians will be readily accessible and in attendance at Butler athletic sporting events to provide immediate diagnosis, and injury and illness consultation for Butler and the competing team’s athletes. Physicians will also have an active presence on the Butler campus, evaluating and assessing the student-athletes.
“Butler University’s Department of Athletics is very pleased to form this partnership with St.Vincent Sports Medicine,” said Barry Collier, athletic director at Butler University. “Our athletes can look forward to outstanding care and treatment by their sports medicine physicians.”
Butler will have the opportunity to receive pre-participation physicals and will have authority to refer athletes to the full service, tertiary hospital for follow-up care by St.Vincent medical staff.
“We want to ensure that each Butler athlete receives the highest level of care by our various specialty physicians,” said Dr. Harsha. “Athletes will have full access to the cutting-edge resources at St.Vincent, which will encompass a full continuum of care and elevate the health care experience for athletes. Our goal is to provide appropriate care for athletes, and get them back on the playing field.”
St.Vincent also provides sports medicine support to Marian College, DePauw University and Indiana University’s Men’s Basketball Team.
