FUNCTIONAL TRAINING
Functional Training incorporates movements that are specific to all sports. This class will teach an athlete how to become "balanced" and how to improve core strength, postural stabilization, dynamic balance, and integrated flexibility. All these aspects are important to reduce injury and gain strength that is needed during competition. Training will consist of movements with stability balls, dumbbells, elastic cords and circuit training that develop athletic skills. This class will take functional strength training to an all new level. Classes are one hour in duration, twice per week, for eight weeks.
SPEED & AGILITY
This class will incorporate the fundamentals of speed training with the development of muscular balance, core control and integrated flexibility. We will teach basic running form as well as how to change directions, accelerate and decelerate. Speed and agility classes cover acceleration, maximum velocity, first step quickness, starting technique and multidirectional movements. "These fundamentals are essential to success," says our speed program director, Greg Moore, CSCS. This class will also focus on functional strength that is vital to the production of speed and body control as it moves in a sport specific environment. Classes are one hour in duration and meet twice per week for eight weeks.
MULTI-PLANE WEIGHT TRAINING
This class is not a traditional weight class. The program is designed to lift weights at multiple angles and ranges of motion. In addition, to a weight component, a functional strength training component will accompany each session. By combining these two aspects, this class will provide strength, endurance and power through positions most used in sports. The focus of this class is to balance back-side strength to front-side strength, as well as train the body to have strength in multiple directions to decrease the chance of injury. Classes are one hour in duration and meet twice per week for eight weeks. |
